In the midst of all the wonderful chapters about how our Christ comes to us in our sin issue with family and spousal affection, we find ourselves having a remaining issue. The remaining issue is the law which binds us to obey perfectly and pay the price for any and all disobedience. In our passage, the law makes its claim to us and proves itself to be nothing more than unwilling and unable to do anything for us leaving the only one able to claim us by grace. (Ru 4:1-22)

In chapter 2 of Ruth, we have our first answer to being lawless and evil under the law. The answer God gives us is adoption into a grace family. But the question needs to be asked if this is all. In chapter 3 we see another solution to how we, being under law, are made worse. God's second answer to the person finding themselves lacking under the law is a grace marriage to a heavenly Husband who gives you his perfections as yours and takes your sin and rebellion as His own debt to take ownership for and remove. (Ru 3:1-18)

Our story about Ruth and Boaz comes in a time where Israel was under the law and in being under the law everyone did what was right in their own eyes. So what is the answer to living lawlessly? Is it more law, less law, no law, lighter laws? In our text, we come to find that the great answer to our lawless life is a perfect law keeper who in being perfect for us re-writes our story in His so that we can enjoy a family affection with Him for His sake and not ours. (Ru 2:11-23)
