What are the concerns and things that we need to secure ourselves against in the church? In this world knowing what threatens and what must be secured is absolutely vital. What Paul shows us is that the church needs to be diligent to trust God to have the right kind of joy in Someone else and at the same time to be guarding against teachings that add works to the gospel. He also tells us that we need to be clear and secure about what essentially distinguishes a Christian, which is nothing less than worship empowered by the grace presence of God's Spirit, boasting exclusively in Christ's achievements, and possessing zero confidence in ourselves. Any other things said to be essential or defining simply are not essential and defining. (Php 3:1-3)
