Gospel Grounded Guidelines for Life

The Gospel's Only Place: The Center

Pastor Aldo Leon - Philippians 2:12-13
Series: The Gospel's Only Place: The Center
Delivered on: 11 September 2016

In Christianity, we often seem to have general guidelines for living that seem to have nothing to do with the gospel that grounds and founds all things. We seem to incorporate guidelines from a different foundation and then seek to mix and match them with the gospel's foundation. However, what Paul shows us in these verses is that a gospel foundation must go hand-in-hand with gospel-grace qualified guidelines. Said another way, our guidelines come from and through and in the gospel. (Php 2:12-13)

Exalted Only in Christ

The Gospel's Only Place: The Center

Pastor Aldo Leon - Philippians 2:9-11
Series: The Gospel's Only Place: The Center
Delivered on: 4 September 2016

After Paul humbles us by the unparalleled humility of Christ he then moves to the unparalleled exaltation of Christ. You see, in order for us to heed the call to be about people found in Php 2:1-4, we do not only need the gospel to humble us, but we also need the gospel to exalt us in Christ. It is in these verses where we find true prominence in the exaltation of a crucified Christ and it is in this reality that we are freed to seek the well-being of others. Why? Because we have all the status and prominence we need in someone else. (Php 2:9-11)

Humbled by the Unparalleled Humility of the Crucified Christ

The Gospel's Only Place: The Center

Pastor Aldo Leon - Philippians 2:5-8
Series: The Gospel's Only Place: The Center
Delivered on: 28 August 2016

As Paul moves from what we have by grace to the need to be about other people and not ourselves in the church, he then quickly shifts gears and goes back to the cross. It seems that for Paul, love and service in the church can only come from fixing our eyes on the scandalous humility of a crucified Christ who was eternally privileged as God. Loving humility is not about trying to be so or even being told to do so, but it comes from forgetting about ourselves in the radical saving self-forgetfulness of Christ. In summary, Paul shows us that the key for a gospel-centered church to be about people is in the church seeing itself regularly in light of the implications of a saving-serving Christ. (Php 2:5-8)
