Having discussed that we are to make disciples, we then consider how to make disciples. In our passage we see that the way we make disciples is by giving them new identities based upon who God is and what He, in three persons who are one, does. We make disciples by giving them a grace identity and telling them how to live in light of their new identity. (Mt 28:19-20)

What are we supposed to do as a church? Do we have multiple parallel goals or one? If so what is it? In our passage we answer that question by showing that the Great Commissioner calls us to one thing which involves simply connecting people to Christ in relationships in the context of the church. We are not called to change society, government, or any other symptoms of sin but rather we are called to be facilitators of a transforming love relationship with an altogether lovely Christ. (Mt 28:16-20)

We often see the great commission as being primarily about something we have yet to do. But is that really what it's about? We see that Jesus says that He has been given something which then leads to the therefore of the commission. This means that something He has already done is vital and primary to all we are called to do. (Mt 28:16-20)
