John brings the church into the King's cosmic triumph in the first part of chapter five and in so doing he gives us a vivid picture of the cross-work of the Lamb. He then shows us that this is our defining anthem that we sing. At the end of the vision we see what this does to us. John is showing the church that its hope in calamity is that Jesus triumphs in grace and as the church is defined by that it then inevitably responds. (Re 5:11-14)

After John takes us into the throne room to consider the Father and the Son, he then transitions to a new vision that gives an overview of how Christ's rule will look between His first and second coming. The second, third and fourth seals tell us about how God reigns in judgment on the world and what God is doing behind the scenes as He leads reality to its necessary end. (Re 6:1-8)
